About Word Hoard

I’m a playwright, poet, and critic. I’m two-thirds done with a trilogy of verse plays, and I have a book of poetry published. (Links below!) In addition, I serve as the poetry editor for Plough Quarterly.

A smattering of the topics you’ll find here:

  • Does the Romantic notion of artist-as-solitary-genius produce the best art, or can artists thrive in “real life” situations (marriage, family, community)?

  • What makes an artistic collaboration “tick” (and when is that the tick-tick-tick of a bomb about to explode)??

  • How can we bring fine art into our day-to-day lives?

Nearly all my posts are free. I am doing this because I’m trying to learn a new form (libretti) and it’s more fun to do it with friends. I hope you find beauty and joy in these posts. If you’re moved to support me by getting a paid subscription, I’d be very grateful.

If you become a larger-scale patron of my art by becoming a founding subscriber, I’d be honored to send you a signed copy of one of my books (see below).

Thanks for reading!

Thoughts on poetry, opera, fiction, and theology. I love weird traditional artists--Bosch, Hofmannstal, Rabelais, David Jones. The existence of anything at all is astonishing!
